Irish Broadband – First Impressions
Filed Under Computers & Tech on May 29, 2008 at 1:31 pm
I’ve been holding off on this post for a while just to be sure I didn’t speak too soon. Simply put, I am delighted with IBB. They deliver what they promise. Simple as that. My traffic graphs are almost perfectly flat when downloading large files, and right on the money in terms of speed. This service bears all the hall-marks of a happy and un-stressed TCP/IP network. So far I have no complaints at all. The modem supplied works perfectly with my existing router, and I have no idea what support is like because I haven’t needed them.
Long may this continue!

Yeah, I’ve been on IBB for a while now (year+). Good service. Performance does drop off occasionally, but most of the time it’s great, and has had virtually no downtime that I recall.
The only problem i had with IBB is that they accepted my application, but never told me that they had no space on the aerials in my area. So i was left waiting for them to contact me to organise my connection, and only when i rang them to find out the delay did they bother telling me that they had no intention of setting me up as they lacked the capacity.
This is i suppose good news for you, as it is clear that they don’t go beyond a certain point on an aerial, so the network is less likely to become overcrowded.
I believe you’re on IBB’s wireless package Dave. IBB wouldn’t sell that package because their mast here in Maynooth is full. I guess this means things for you are as bad as IBB ever let them get – and you’re still happy so that’s a very good sign. I’ve signed up for their DSL package which I don’t think is as popular.
Gar, sounds like you fell through the cracks or something … poor show … at least they answered your calls though and were able to give you an answer when you did ring.
Bart.
Re wireless, yeah, it’s a specific communal thing – aerial on the roof or somewhere, then wired around the apts. Wouldn’t be one of their standard packages I think. But yeah, good to hear their DSL is decent as well.
