Naas General Hospital – a Most Pleasant Surprise
Filed Under 42 (Life the Universe & Everything), Polemics & Politics on March 7, 2008 at 6:50 pm
You hear lots of stuff about how utterly inadequate, mismanaged and generally shambolic the Irish health service is. Those stories are unfortunately true, the experiences of my direct family speak to that. That’s why I was so pleasantly surprised by Naas General Hospital this morning. I’m suffering from a very bad chest infection at the moment which my doctor fears has developed into pneumonia. So he sent me to Naas for a chest X-Ray. I got there at 8:40, was seen by 9:10 and on my way home by 9:20. The place was clean, efficiently run and the staff were very nice. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. I’d gone in expecting the worst, that’s why I had my laptop, 3G card and iPod with me. As it happens I barely had time to check my email!
Lets hope this is a sign of the things to come and not just an isolated case of efficiency in the Irish health system.

More likely a case of Sod’s Law. Had you not brought any of your tech with you, you would have spent six hours in a draughty corridor, staring at the chipped paint on the opposite wall.
My wife’s recent (this week) experience of Naas General Hospital’s A&E, followed by a short stay in the hospital proper, was also, if not a totally pleasant experience,a huge improvement on our previous experience of Irish public hospitals. Clean, reasonably efficient and a caring and professional staff (both medical and admin).

I am at present on my forth stay in Naas General hospital and I have nothing but good words to say about all of the staff here. I have a condition which unfortunately causes me to have week long stays in hospital. I travel from Dublin as I had a bad experience in Tallaght hospital which now are at fault for my condition, hence why i had to travel to Naas and as soon as I came to Naas I ws looked after within 20 mins of being registered in A&E.
Keep up the good work Naas General Hospital….
I have been a patient in Naas Hospital and i was looked after brilliantly by all the staff on the ward they were lovely. At present i am attending the outpatient as i have diabetes and i had to go in to have bloods done. I was in and out in a few minutes. Well Done staff and Naas Hospital.
