Recognising Homosexuality Does Not Make Straight People Gay!
Filed Under Polemics & Politics on February 24, 2007 at 8:34 pm
I’m sure this is blindingly obvious to most people, anyone with more than a few braincells to rub together at least! However, this fact seems to have totally escaped the President of Poland who made an ass of himself here in Ireland this week. Here’s what he had to say:
[humanity] would disappear if homosexuality was freely promoted
…
Imagine what grand changes would occur in mores if the traditional links between men and women were set aside
He is quite obviously a few beers short of a six pack. He seems to be laboring under the insane delusion that gay rights is about forcing all heterosexuals into gay marriages and ending heterosexual marriage! This is if course total and utter rubbish. No one wants to replace traditional family units, just to also allow other forms of love be expressed and recognized.
This ignorance on behalf of their president makes it clear to me that although Poland is politically in Europe, their government is mentally in the middle ages and seriously lacking in IQ. Simple human rights for gays in Poland is a real problem and a real test for the EU. Poland signed up to the EU which means they have taken on responsibilities and duties as well as getting the advantages of EU membership (mainly vast wodges of cash). When it comes to human rights Poland is failing to come even close to living up to those responsibilities. The EU will have to tackle this and doing so will test the strength of the union and the union’s commitment to living up to its ideals. We certainly have interesting times ahead of us.
yup, not surprised at this at all. it’s easily the most backwards, racist and small minded nation en masse that I’ve ever had the displeasure of visiting

Poland has the lowest divorce rate, perhaps they feel that if they follow suit with the rest of the world that they will throw the baby out with the bathwater
What has that got to do with anything? what is the relationship between gay rights and divorce rates?
What I just can’t get my head around is how regular healthy marriage is in any way what so ever affected by gay rights. The ONLY people who will have any interest what so ever in a same sex marriage are gay people! They cannot be a part of a healthy heterosexual marriage because it is a lie!
I can’t see any mechanism by which gay marriage leads to an increase in marital breakdown within heterosexual marriages.
It’s not just in Poland. Every so often, ones hears a caller to a radio talk show here in Vancouver, BC Canada recalling former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeaus when he was Canada’s Justice Minister, commenting “The governemnt having no business in the bedrooms of the nation.” Thus paving the way to legalize homosexuality in Canada back in the late 1960’s. The caller usually goes on to show their stupidity by going on to say that thank God Trudeau didn’t go further and make it manditory. Whenever I hear these totally homophobic and ill-informed comments, I often wonder how it is that heterosexuality is so tenuous “hanging on by a thread” so to speak, that this man was willing to become gay if it was leglislated by government. “Gee, I really didn’t want to have sex with the guys in the bowling league, but the government has made it law so get the lube.” If only it were that easy! LOL.
These comments are still heard in a first world country where Same Sex marriage has now been legal for the past few years.
Hi Tim,
Thanks for a Canadian perspective on this. TBH I really thought that in countries where gay marriage has been legal for a while these kind of insane ideas would have died away. Pitty that doesn’t seem to be the case 🙁
Bart, first of all read my post more carefully before you attempt to disaggree… I’m trying to explain to you why they think allowing same sex marriages could cause problems.
Personally I have nothing against same sex marriage so there is little point in arguing the issue itself but rather how it is seen by the polish.
If you seek to argue with my comment please reference how they see things.
Stephen, I’m saying I can see no link at all between divorce rates and gay rights. Not even a hypothetical one. You haven’t explained how the Polish people do or could see on either. You just gave a random statistic about Poland and left it at that. How does that in any way relate to this post, either in your eyes of the eyes of the Poles?
If you think about it, what the president of Poland is saying is that, given enough “encouragement”, heterosexual people would form homosexual relationships! As a heterosexual, I find that idea totally absurd – there is nothing that the gay community could do that would make me want to form a homosexual relationship. I can only think of one type of heterosexual who would think that they could be convinced to form a homosexual relationship – namely someone who is actually a closeted homosexual.
It reminds me of an experiment that I heard about. They put a bunch of heterosexual people, ranging from the most homophobic to the most neutral, into booths into which they fed homosexual pornography. They found that the more homophobic the larger the physiological reaction to the pornography…
